With canine flu circulating in the Tulsa community, Tulsa Animal Welfare wants you to know how to take precautions regarding the flu and how to keep your dogs healthy.

Currently, there are some flu-positive dogs in the care of Tulsa Animal Welfare but the shelter is remaining open to serve the citizens of Tulsa and for public safety and our animals.

There are several wonderful partners that are supporting and assisting the shelter at this time. Paws in Need Tulsa (PINT), Oklahoma Alliance for Animals (OAA), and Humane Society of Tulsa (HST) have offered suggestions, provided space for our dogs and agreed to assist with injured dogs coming in to the facility.  HST has also offered “ZIPPER”, its transport and disaster relief truck, to help save our dogs. In the short-term, HST will be housing dogs coming in to TAW. Available dogs coming through the HST facility will be posted for adoption.

While the Shelter will never replace a good home with a caring family, we do our best to provide a safe place where animals will find food, water and a friendly face with a caring hand.

Animal Control Officers enforce the Animal Code found in Title 2 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Tulsa. These ordinances include requirements for rabies vaccinations, city licensing and sterilization requirements.

Cats and dogs not reclaimed by their owners may become available for adoption after three business days. Animals surrendered to us by their owners are immediately available.

They were available for adoption when posted on our web page, but we do not guarantee that a cat or dog seen on our web page will be available to adopt when you arrive at the shelter. The City of Tulsa Animal Welfare Division does not reserve cats or dogs for adoption by telephone or email. You must come to the shelter.

If you’re looking for a lost pet, begin by following the links below. We also STRONGLY recommend that you visit and walk through the shelter to see if your pet was picked up by our field officers or brought in by a concerned individual.

Spay and Neuter

When you adopt a pet through the Tulsa Animal Welfare, the cost of spaying and neutering is included. City Ordinance requires all dogs and cats over the age of six months be spayed or neutered. Certain exemptions are allowed by permit. By law, every dog and cat adopted from our shelter has to be spayed or neutered.
